Carnauba wax, a Brazilian palm plant derivative, tends to yellow with time. Although carnauba wax is still used in formulations such as surfboard wax and automobile polish, it is too soft to withstand the punishment of commercial foot traffic. Carnauba floor coatings can also be quite slippery. Modern resin technology enables the use of plastic coatings. High quality synthetic floor finishes are more color-stable, wear-resistant, and are not slippery.
