THE ART AND SCIENCE OF HEALTHY BUILDINGS
June 2010
Gerald R. Cohen, CEO and chief chemical engineer of Gerrus Maintenance Inc., likes a challenge. For more than four decades, Gerrus has distinguished itself as a leading provider of professional building cleaning, maintenance and remediation services, and a complete line of maintenance and sanitary supplies. Their staff continues to meet the needs of commercial, industrial, warehouse and residential properties throughout New Jersey, Northeastern Pennsylvania and Southeastern New York. The multiple service divisions of Gerrus provide in-depth expertise and a wide range of services which include office cleaning and industrial janitorial services; regulated pharmaceutical and environmental cleaning; certified remediation of mold and other microbes; fire, flood and disaster restoration; biological and chemical odor removal; indoor allergen removal; and environmental cleaning of any type of building, whether commercial or residential.
Part Mr. Clean, part Mr. Wizard, Gerry Cohen brings a holistic, solution-oriented perspective to the field of building maintenance that sets Gerrus apart. "There used to be a slogan which said, 'better living through chemistry' ...well, I took that message to heart. I usually find a way to do something thats a little different. I frequently use a multi-level approach and always try to solve the problem at its source, not merely treat the symptom."
Gerry earned the B.Ch.E. from Cooper Union and the M.S.Ch.E. from Purdue University. He taught on the chemical engineering staff and subsequently held positions as a chemical engineer that included quality control, plant engineering and management, process design and consulting, research, and of course he continues to manage the professional activities of Gerrus Maintenance Inc. Gerrus Maintenance Inc. is headquartered in the Raritan Center, Edison, New Jersey. Visit their website at www.gerrus.com and their healthy cleaning blog at www.cleannj.com.
Gerry holds multiple professional certificates from the American Council for Accredited Certification, the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification, and the United States Environmental Protection Agency. He joined the American Institute of Chemical Engineers more than fifty years ago and is still a member. His other professional memberships include the Building Service Contractors Association International, Indoor Air Quality Association, Mycological Society of America, American Institute of Biological Sciences, and the American Society for Microbiology.
